Namastey London
Time and again there have been movies about conflict between Western and Indian cultures. While more often than not, the stories are told from the point of view of those who have been bred and brought up in India and face cultural diversities when it comes to coping with the West, there are hardly many movies coming out from Bollywood that take a balanced approach in giving the point of views from both ends.
Vipul Amrutlal Shah's 'Manastey London' is one such film that tells the story of a newly wed couple who belong to different ends of the world but are brought together by destiny to share a relation which is considered to be the most divine of all - the one of man and wife!
Manmohan Singh [Rishi Kapoor] is a London based man who still has his Indian roots intact. Though his mannerisms and wardrobe may carry Western influence, his 'dil' is still 'hindustani'. He has a young'n'beautiful daughter named Jasmeet a.k.a Jazz [Katrina Kaif] who has lived all her life in London and is now completely influenced by the city. And why not? After all this is what she has all her life and there is little else that she knows about her Indian roots as she has been hardly exposed to it so far.
Realizing that it may have been too late after all, Manmohan Singh gets into a panic mode and decides to marry her off to an Indian. This Indian is none but Arjun, a rough talking farmer from Punjab, who is obviously overwhelmed to get a marriage proposal like this. Eager to get married to the woman who could well be the dream of his life, his joy knows no bounds.
Sadly, it is just the opposite of it since he soon realizes that Jazz had married to him under pressure and was instead in love with a Brit boyfriend of hers.
Traveling with her to London, he faces heartbreak when Jazz romances her boyfriend right in front of him and is determined to marry him one day. On the other hand Arjun is determined to get the love of his life from his wife. He tried to befriend her and take this relationship to the point where Jazz has no choice but to surrender to his unselfish, undying and honest love.
But was it so easy to gain Jazz's love?
Especially when she had a friend like Imran Khan [Upen Patel], a young man from Pakistani origin who was again born and brought up in London. Since he had similar sense and sensibilities as Jazz, he could empathize with her, especially because even he had a Brit girlfriend. He gave Jazz the kind of advice that she wanted to listen. But it was only later when he realized his folly and now felt guilty about the fact that his advice to Jazz was all wrong.
Would he be able to redeem himself? Especially since his father Parvez Khan [Jawed Shaikh] too reprimanded him for his thoughts and beliefs. A Taxi driver by profession and Manmohan Singh's best friend, Parvez knew what was best for his son and his friend's daughter. And now he wanted his son to correct his mistake!
Together, would they all be able to make Jazz realize the meaning of true love? Would Arjun finally manage to win Jazz's love? Would Jazz have a change of heart? And would Imran redeem himself?
An emotional light hearted film that narrates the journey of a simpleton into a western city and in turn into the heart of his beloved, 'Namastey London' has music by Himesh Reshammiya and is slated for a March 09 release.
