Parliamentarian K. Kavitha, who is the daughter of Telangana Rashtriya Samithi (TRS) president and chief-minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao, has said that nobody knew Telangana as much as her father.
Counting of votes in Telangana began at 08:00 a.m. yesterday and TRS established a clear lead over the Congress-TDP combine and the BJP form the beginning to end up with a mammoth tally of 88 out of the 119 seats. Rao, who played a crucial role in the creation of Telangana a few years back, is held in high esteem by the people and electorate who reposed their faith by voting en masse for him and his party.
Thus, the TRS’ gamble of dissolving the Assembly eight months ahead of its tenure has worked very well in its favour. Earlier, Telangana was to vote to elect a new Assembly along with the general elections in the country slated to be held during April/May next year. There was a yawning gap between TRS and other parties as the next major coalition, the Congress-TDP combine, could only get 21, less than one-fourth of what TRS got.
Thanking people for the landslide win, KCR pulled up the Congress for allying with the TDP, which rules in Andhra Pradesh. Reacting to TRS’ thumping win, Kavitha said “Naina’s (Father) hardwork for the past many years has paid off finally,” and added that nobody knew Telangana as well as her father knew.
“We knew beforehand that we would win and the much-touted Congress-TDP coalition was strong only on paper,” Kavitha said. “Naidu garu tried his best to hide his own failures in Andhra Pradesh and fool voters in Telangana; his idea of ‘maha alliance’ has now fallen flat,” she concluded before predicting a national role for her father with the Lok Sabha elections just a few months away.
