Last year, Akkineni Nagarjuna announced that he would be adopting 1,080 acres of forest land. Keeping his word, the 'Bangarraju' actor today laid a foundation stone for a park in Hyderabad.
Going into the details, the park is named after his father: Akkineni Nageswara Rao Urban Forest Park. The same is being built in the Chengicherla forest area on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
The launch has been planned to coincide with the birthday of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. Speaking on the occasion, the 'Wild Dog' actor attributed the park to the inspiring Green India Challenge floated by Rajya Sabha MP J Santosh Kumar.
The launch ceremony was graced by Nag's family members. His wife Amala and actor Naga Chaitanya made their presence felt. They made a donation of Rs 2 Cr to the Haritha Nidhi, which was recently floated by the KCR government.
"This forest area park would immensely help the people living in the colonies," the senior actor said.
As for J Santosh Kumar, he said, "The Urban Park that is coming up in the vacant areas will accommodate one lakh saplings. A great beginning has been made today."
The MP also said that Hyderabad is suited to develop 1.50 lakh acres of forest land that will be protected, preserved and developed under the Green India Challenge initiative.
It may be recalled that actor Prabhas adopted 1,650 acres in the Khajipally forest area last year.
