At a drive organised by the Yashoda Group of Hospitals in association with Jeevandan, the State-run organ donation movement, Akkineni Nagarjuna today raised awareness regarding organ donation.

Saying that he had happily done it with enthusiasm, he recalled how his right leg was operated upon by using donor organs. His father, the legendary ANR, too had pledged his organs, but since he died at an old age of 91, they couldn't be used. "The pacemaker of his heart was donated," Nag recalled.

"I happened to ask Yashoda's doctors a stupid question. I asked them if the organs donated here would be exclusively used by the hospital," he said, suggesting that was not the case.

Nag also hoped that superstitious beliefs and awareness issues that were stopping the sprouting of organ donation systems in India come down.
