Sureshkumar, District Collector of Nagapattinam, has appealed to the people of the District not to press the panic button as it was merely a rumour that ‘Tsunami alert’ has been issued across the District.
Rumours spread on social networking sites right from yesterday afternoon saying that Tsunami alert has been issued in the District of Nagapattinam. A video containing the details of precautionary measures to be made in case of an outbreak of a Tsunami has been shared madly on Twitter, etc., adding teeth to the rumours which also said that sea has been eroded in many places.
In a message to the people, District Collector Sureshkumar denied that the District administration had issued or considered issuing a ‘Tsunami’ alert. “I appeal to the people not to panic by believing rumours which are planted by miscreants. Rumour-mongers would be dealt with strictly as per laws,” he further warned.
The District Collector also appealed to residents not to get carried away by the disaster management drill which was undertaken and shot on 24th November.
