Naga Shaurya is happy that 'Oh Baby' is doing very well at the box-office. In this interview, catch him talk about how it was shooting for the fantasy-comedy, working with Samantha Akkineni, his upcoming movies, the accident on set of his film recently and more.
How was it being paired up with a star heroine like Samantha?
When the script was narrated to me for the first time, my role was short. I was excited to work with Nandini Reddy as well as Samantha. My extended cameo was made into a full-length role.
Samantha refused to start her work until Lakshmi garu started her part. It's because she had to observe Lakshmi garu's body language first before proceeding to play her part. It felt happy to be working with her, a down-to-earth person. In one of the scenes, I spit whiskey on her. I was reluctant to do that because she is a star heroine. It was Samantha herself who asked me to go ahead and do it as per the script. She can do anything to get a scene right.
She recently said that you are very shy when it comes to doing romantic scenes. Is it true?
I do avoid romantic scenes. But when it is a must, I have to do them.
Did you expect this level of success?
I did expect the film to do well. This is the kind of film that all generations can connect with. It's a script that everyone can relate to. My mother has connected with the film so much. I am happy to have been a part of this sensible and hit film. I can't do guest roles or extended cameos with one and all. I can do that only with select few. Nandini Reddy garu is like a sister and someone with whom I would always be ready to work with. She had her doubts about whether I would say OK to the role.
You have tried a new look in 'Oh Baby'. What are people saying about it?
Everyone is saying that I am handsome in the film. They are liking my beard and hair-style. I have also bulked up for the role.
What about your forthcoming projects?
'Ashwaddhama', a film in my home production, is in the production phase. 'Palana Abbayi Palana Ammayi' with Srinivas Avasaral is another film. I am playing 7 different characters in this one. A film titled 'Pardhu' is also in the pipeline. The order of release of these movies can't be said now. Only time will tell.
You recently met with an accident while shooting for an action scene. Why didn't you go for a dupe?
I had to do it without a body-double because it's an interval block fight. Nowadays, the audience are very attentive. They wouldn't be quite satisfied if a dupe does every risky shot. I am now able to walk. I will be able to run in a month.
