Nagarjuna's son Naga Chaitanya issued a strong statement denouncing comments made by Telangana Minister Konda Surekha regarding his divorce from actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu. Chaitanya called the Minister's allegations false and absolutely ridiculous, dismissing them as baseless gossip.

The controversy arose after Surekha, in an interview, alleged that BRS (Bharat Rashtra Samithi) working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) had played a role in the divorce of Naga Chaitanya and Samantha. She accused KTR of interfering in the personal lives of celebrities and being involved in drug-related controversies.

In response, Naga Chaitanya released a statement on October 2, emphasizing the painful nature of the decision to divorce, stating that it was a mutual choice made after careful consideration. He condemned Surekha's allegations as absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable.

Naga Chaitanya also revealed that he had chosen to remain silent throughout the ordeal out of respect for his former spouse and his family. He stated, The decision of divorce is easily one of the most painful and unfortunate life decisions one has to make. After a lot of thought, a mutual decision was made by me and my former spouse to part ways. It was a decision made in peace, owing to our different life goals and in the interest of moving forward with respect and dignity as two mature adults.

Samantha Ruth Prabhu, prior to Chaitanya's statement, had also addressed the Minister's comments, asking her to keep her name out of it.

Following Surekha's interview, veteran actor Nagarjuna, his wife Amala Akkineni, and son Akhil Akkineni expressed their disapproval of the Minister's personal comments about the divorce.

Naga Chaitanya and Samantha announced their separation in October 2021, ending their four-year marriage. Earlier this year, in August, Chaitanya got engaged to actress Sobhita Dhulipala. Already many celebrities from film and political fraternity condemned Konda Surekha's insensitive comments.
