The Indian Racing Festival, featuring the thrilling Indian Racing League (IRL) and the prestigious FIA Formula 4 Indian Championships, roared to life in Chennai on August 24th. Adding star power to the event, Tollywood heartthrob Naga Chaitanya joined the roster of celebrity team owners, including Arjun Kapoor, John Abraham, and Sourav Ganguly, further amplifying the league's appeal.
Chaitanya, a devoted Formula 1 enthusiast and a collector of supercars and motorcycles, brings a unique blend of charisma and motorsport expertise to his role as owner of the Hyderabad Blackbirds. "Leading the Blackbirds is a dream come true," Chaitanya expressed, "I can't wait to inspire the next generation of Indian racing talent."
The two-day spectacle unfolded at the newly designed Chennai Formula Racing Circuit, a 3.5-kilometer track that wound through iconic landmarks like the Victory War Memorial and Anna Salai. The challenging track, featuring 19 turns, multiple chicanes, and tricky elevations, tested the skills of the drivers and captivated audiences with its stunning visuals.
Eight teams, including the Bangalore Speedsters, Chennai Turbo Riders, Speed Demons Delhi, Goa Aces, Hyderabad Blackbirds, and Rahr Bengal Tigers, competed in the inaugural event. Naga Chaitanya, demonstrating his leadership, focused on ensuring his team felt supported and prepared for the inaugural race: "I don't want to put too much pressure on them. It's their first time on this track. So getting to know them, I want to wish the best to them."
The Hyderabad Blackbirds are now set for an exciting season, with their schedule outlining the upcoming rounds:
Pre Season Test: August 21-August 22
Round 1: August 24–25 at the Madras International Circuit (MIC) in Chennai
Round 2: August 30–September 1 at the Chennai Formula Racing Circuit
Round 3: September 13–15 at the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore
Round 4: October 19–20, venue to be determined
Round 5: November 16–17, venue to be determined
The Hyderabad Blackbirds will face fierce competition from Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Goa, and Kolkata in the Season Opener, as they strive for the coveted championship title. With Naga Chaitanya at the helm, the team is poised to make their mark on the Indian racing scene and inspire a new generation of motorsport enthusiasts.
