Akkineni Nagarjuna popularly known as Nag and

He is the son of well known actor Dr. Akkineni
Nageswara Rao and Annapurna Akkineni.
Nageswara Rao (Nata Samrat) is a successful
actor for about four and half decades in Tollywood
and served the industry as artiste, producer
and studio owner. He has also acted together with
Nagarjuna in a few films.

Nagarjuna earned fame not only as a son of a legendary actor, but also as a hero by himself for his acting talent. Today he has earned reputation and remains as a respected star after having done multiple films successfully through his film career and also a producer. He has also ventured in to the small screen entertainers with a popular serial 'Happy Days'.

Nagarjuna is married to his co-artiste Amala who is presently active with Blue-Cross society. He has two sons Naga Chaitanya and Akhil. Chaitanya soon to make a debut in to Tollywood and Akhil who was featured in the lead role in movie 'Sisindri’ which is influenced from Hollywood hit ‘A Baby’s Day Out.’

Nagarjuna despite being a qualified engineer chose films as a profession with a passion to continue his father's legacy. He was introduced with the film 'Vikram' in their home production. 'Vikram' was released on May 23rd, 1986 became a hit, irrespective of the criticism on his action and dialogue modulation.

The first break in this career was achieved with the film 'Aakhari Poratam' directed by Raghavendra Rao. Interestingly Sridevi (who has earlier played heroine in several films opposite to Nageshwara Rao) played as the female lead in this film. The film was a block buster and earned a star image to Nagarjuna.

Nagarjuna appreciates novel ideas in film making, and always encourages new talents. Consequently he had the opportunity to work with various talented directors and technicians.

Creative director Maniratnam's 'Geetanjali' has brought forth the acting skills of Nagarjuna. The film was a biggest hit and the music scored by Illayaraja was also a massive hit.

Ram Gopal Varma was encouraged by Nagarjuna to step into celluloid career and was debuted as director with Nagarjuna's film 'Siva' made under his own banner Annapurna. It turned in to a block-buster movie which also became a benchmark movie in Nagarjunas career. The film also brought forward Tanikella Bharani a talented writer and artiste.

Nagarjuna has performed a wide range of roles from mass to class with high success rates. When 'Annamayya' in the direction of Raghavendra Rao was in the making every one was curious about his performance in the title role, which is of a legendary-poet and very much contradictory to his earlier roles as a action filled characteristic commercial hero. Set asiding every ones doubts, he emerged successful, and was applauded by the Pravasi Indian audiences too. Eventually, it paved way to another film 'Sri Ramadasu' also a classic movie. He has once commented that these films gave him immense satisfaction as an artiste.

Nagarjuna received, Filmfare award for Best Hero thrice and also received the State Governments Nandi Awards as Best Hero for Annamayya and Snatosham.

Nagarjuna has planned to celebrate his birth day this year with the unit members of his latest film 'King'. Right now the shooting is in progress in the locales of Hyderabad.
