The statue of Nadigar Thilgam Sivaji Ganesan has been removed overnight from the pedestal located in Kamarajar Salai (Beach Road), Chennai.

The statue was erected in the year 2006 by the erstwhile DMK Government ruled by former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.

Since the statue was placed in the mid of the road near a signal, many vehicle users complained that it affects the sight of vehicles coming from other sides. The issue was taken to the Madras High Court a few years back and the Court ruled that the statue should be removed from the Beach road. The Tamil Nadu Government claimed that they are currently constructing a Manimandapam (Memorial building) for the Nadigar Thilagam and once it is completed, the statue will be removed and erected in the Manimandapam. The Court had given time.

Now the statue has been removed from the Beach road overnight. It is expected that the statue of the Thespian will be placed in the Manimandapam very soon. But the removal of the statue overnight in a hush hush manner has incurred criticism from Sivaji Ganesan fan clubs and political parties.
