Stay away from Nadigar Sangam protest- Nasser's request to media
- IndiaGlitz, [Friday,January 20 2017]
As we had reported earlier the Nadigar Sangam has started a dawn to dusk Silent protest to support Jallikattu today. Actor Ponvannan, the Vice President of Nadigar Sangam announced this in a press meet on Wednesday. He also urged all the members of the Sangam to participate in it.
Since the pro-Jallikattu protest has turned out to be a mass movement with the fervent participation of lakhs and lakhs of men and women across Tamil Nadu and many Kollywood celebrities have expressed their support for the protest, the Nadigar Sangam protest is expected to have full attendance of the members. Stalwarts like Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Vijay, Ajith, Suriya and Vikram are also expected to participate in the protest.
However the Jallikattu supporters who have spent days together in the protest field unrelentingly are apparently not in a mood to welcome the Nadigar Sangam's announcement. The hashtag #SayNoTo NadigarSangamProtest was trending in Twitter on Thursday.
At this moment the statement from Nadigar Sangam President Nasser seeks to quell the fears of Stars hijacking the mass movement formed by common people for Jallikattu. The veteran actor has requested media to not cover the Nadigar Sangam protest and focus their attention on students and youngsters who have been protesting day and night for Jallikattu.
"The entire Tamil community across the globe is in an emotional turmoil today. The cultural identity of the ancient Tamil society (Jallikattu) has been curtailed. To redeem that, the student community and the youngsters have voluntarily gathered like an ocean to protest. Inspired by this uprisi women and children have come down to the streets to protest. The South Indian Artists Association (Nadigar Sangam) wholeheartedly supports this great protest. This will be a silent sit in protest. Not only Nadigar Sangam but also many other departments of the film industry will be taking part in the protest. No one will speak anything or give suggestions to anyone.
I request the Television and online media friends to abstain from recording our protest. Instead please focus the masterminds of this protest. Take the students and youngsters who are unitedly protesting under the scorching sun to the people. Broadcast their opinion.
The media friends have supported us always. But today we are conducting the event without you. I hope you will understand the reason behind that. Let us join together and project those who deserve to be projected to the public (with regard to the Jallikattu protests)."
