India's film-ever Oscar-nominated song 'Naatu Naatu' has won the Academy Award in the Best Original Song category, beating the creations of Lady Gaga and Rihanna. This victory follows the Golden Globe awards win in January.
MM Keeravani gave an emotional speech, while Chandrabose flashed his award and said 'Namasthe'.
RRR's memorable dance-off competition immortalized by Ram Charan and Jr NTR has received the greatest global glory in the domain of awards. It will now forever be etched in the collective memory of Indian cinema.
An on-stage performance was delivered by foreign dancers about 85 minutes before the award was announced. Deepika Padukone, one of the presenters at the ceremony, spoke about the wild popularity that 'Naatu Naatu' enjoys.
The iconic song was shot in the exterior of Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s residence. A number of Ukrainian actors and dancers were made part of the background cast. Rajamouli conceived it as an Indian folk song majorly. That's why you see Chandrabose's lyrics use colloquial Telugu.
In the run up to the Oscars, the song was written about by international journals and publications. "The heel-thrusting, suspender-bending, dust-kicking dance sequence" was described by WSJ as the movie world’s one of most exuberant moments of 2022.
