'Naandhi', which was released in theatres in February last year, stars Allari Naresh in the lead. The news is that the meaningful and well-intentioned movie has been screened at the 12th Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival held recently. Director Vijay Kanakamedala won the Best Debutant Director Award for narrating a gripping tale.

Satish Varma, the producer of the film, received a special mention in a recognition given at the event held in Noida on April 30. Taking to Twitter, the film's director wrote, "Dada Saheb Phalke...the name itself is Indian Cinema, feeling proud to have my first award with that name... feeling responsible. Jai Hind (sic)."

What is the film about?

Surya Prakash (Allari Naresh) is accused of taking the life of a good politician. He is shocked when a top cop (Harish Utthaman) arrests him on a busy street without a warning. How can an ordinary middle-class 'abbayi', who is just a software engineer, murder a politician? Is mere circumstantial evidence enough to frame him? The criminal justice system doesn't bother much and Surya Prakash leads the next five years of his life in jail. But there is hope for salvation in the form of Aadhya (Varalaxmi Sarathkumar), an honest lawyer who is determined to prove Surya Prakash's innocence and show the bad cop his place.
