This young director is all excited about the release of his debut film. Read this interview, where he talks about the film, his working experience with Sharwanand, Seerath Kapoor, Adivi Sesh, UV Creations, how he got the chance to direct Sharwanand etc.
Excerpts from the interview
Excited
'Run Raja Run' is an out and out entertainer. The response for the songs is also very good and I am excited and confident about the release.
CAR genre
Sharwanand and me always discuss that the film falls into CAR genre, which means Comedy, Action and Romance. Even the hero will be always seen driving a Nano car. So the name is very apt for the genre.
At first, they doubted
I've direct around 40 short films and when I heard that UV Creations banner was looking for new stories, I approached them and narrated the story. They liked it very much. We had considered many actors, but I thought Sharwanand will be very apt for the lead role. Everyone felt whether he can do a 24 year old hyperactive young man as he always does serious roles. But I believed in him and when I narrated the story at the sets of 'Satya 2', he loved the story very much. He said that if I believe in him, he was ready to do. I said yes and that's how the project started. He transformed completely from 'Satya 2' to this film.
My family supported me a lot
I am neither from a filmy background nor rich. If I became a director today, it is all because of the encouragement of my family. My mother was shocked, when I told her that I want to become a director. But she understood my wish and she told me to go ahead by buying me a camera. During my Intermediate and B.Sc. days, I used to direct short films and I have even completed by DFT at LV Prasad film institute. I think only because of my family's encouragement and my short films, I have become a director now.
No relation with it
Everyone is thinking that the film is based on my shortfilm, 'Run Raja Run'. But both of them have no relation, except the title. Like the short film, even the movie is in a crime backdrop and has mainly a love story and is filled with comedy.
Very nice person
Ghibran's inclusion was totally a surprise. Many people here might have heard his songs, but they don't know that the music director's name is Ghibran. I love his music and used one of his songs as my ringtone and when we were searching for the music director of our film, I remembered my ringtone and googled the music director. Only then, I came to know that his name is Ghibran and he was already committed to Kamal Haasan's film then. Even the producer liked his songs and me along with producer Vamsi and Madhie went to Chennai to meet him. Initially, I thought he would be arrogant and proud, as he was working with an actor like Kamal. But I was floored by his down to earth and friendly behaviour. He is a very nice person and even he wanted to do a Telugu film then, as his wife is from Vijayawada. He immediately agreed to do our film and that's how the journey with him started.
All are different
All the five songs should be very different. One is a fast beat song, one is melody, one is pub song and the other two are also different. When I said this to the music director Ghibran, he took it as a challenge. I trusted him and he has given superb tunes. After the audio release, the response for the songs is amazing. Especially the Bujji Ma is a chartbuster. I am confident that the audiences will love the songs more after watching the film.
It is my favourite
It is really a wonderful journey with Ramajogaiah Sastry. He never treated me like a new director and he listened to all my inputs very well and gave me songs in a very short period. The best thing about him is that he has written the beach song 'Coma Coma' and 'I am love' song, where the girl expresses her love in parallel. The 'Om Shanti' song penned by him is my favourite and after hearing that song I am convinced that it will become a hit. The visuals will be even more stunning. I love Srimani's songs and he has given superb lyrics for 'Rajadhi Raja' and 'Bujji ma' songs.
He has done an outstanding job
I was more tensed when approaching Madhie for this movie, than when narrating the script to the hero and producers. Because, I was mentally fixed then that only Madhie sir should work for my film. When producer Vamsi asked Madhie if he works for our film, he said that he will decide after hearing the story. But after hearing the story, he was very impressed and agreed to work with us. Though he is a big cinematographer, he never makes us uncomfortable. He is a very good person and only because of him, the output of the film is so good.
Fun working with him
After the lead pair, the role I most like in this film is Adivi Sesh's role. It was fun working with him and when I worked with him. When I narrated the script, he said that he didn't listen such a good script in the recent times. Whether he played a negative or positive role should be seen on screen.
They will definitely succeed
A short filmmaker can definitely become a feature filmmaker. Making a short film is to check whether they can do a film or not, if they have a script. It is only because of my short films and the support of the people in social networking sites and others, I got the confidence to make a film. There are many talented short filmmakers out there and if they have good script and does good short films, they will definitely succeed as a feature filmmaker.
Different path
Every film maker wants to do different films and they come to the industry choosing their own path. My senior in college, Balaji Mohan has done the film, 'Love failure' and even 'Pizza' and 'Soodhu Kavvum' directors are with me there in Chennai. They have chosen different paths. Whatever subject I does, I try to present it differently. I
