Chitralahari has relatable scenes: Sai Dharam Tej

Sai Dharam Tej awaits the release of 'Chitralahari' on April 12.  In this interview, the Mega hero talks about its premise, working with director Kishore Tirumala, Sunil, Devi Sri Prasad and others, his upcoming projects and more.

What is the premise of the movie?

I play a young, failed man named Vijay Krishna.  He knows no success in his life.  He doesn't know how it tastes.  How such a man overcomes failures and becomes successful in the end is the premise.

Having seen successive failures in the recent years, what steps are you taking these days to select the right kind of scripts?

Every film is about teamwork.  As an actor, I give my 100 percent every time.  Failures are a part and parcel of every career. I take full responsibility if a film fails.  That said, even when my films failed, they fetched me a good name as an actor.  Every actor gets some or the other Friday in a year to prove himself or herself.  Having attained experience over the years, I am these days in a position to say 'No' to less than desirable scripts.  I am okaying projects only if I am satisfied totally with the script.

What thoughts crossed your mind when you listened to the script of 'Chitralahari'?

Something in me told me that I shouldn't lose this film at any cost.  I listened to my heart and said 'Yes' to Kishore Tirumala. I have known the director for several years, ever since he was a writer.  When he made 'Nenu Sailaja', I appreciated him for showing Ram in a new way and the scenes in a novel manner.  Just because he is my friend, it doesn't mean that I should do a film with him for the sake of it.  I never approached him with this in mind.  His success is mine as well.

What kind of reactions is the Trailer for 'Chitralahari' generating?

Many are saying on the Internet that the film seems to be their biopic.  Every man has such a phase in life.  The incidents in the film are quite relatable.  We are confident that the film will definitely touch them.  'Chitralahari' carries a positive message for everyone who is trying for success.  They will know it when they watch the movie.

Have you seen the final copy?

I am yet to watch it.  I have dubbed for the movie.  I will watch the movie along with the audience at a theatre.

Tell us about Devi Sri Prasad's music.

His music is simply wonderful for the movie.  I have always followed Devi anna's music since his first film.  I have a collection of all his works.  I never imagined that there would come a day when I will work with him.  It has been my mother's wish that I dance to his tunes.  It has become a reality with 'Chitralahari'.

The song 'Glassmates' has become quite a pun, with Jana Sena's symbol being Glass.  Was it all planned?

It wasn't.  Even when Kishore Tirumala narrated the script in February, this song was there, so also the other three songs.  It was in December that Jana Sena got the 'Glass' symbol allotted.

How was it working with Kalyani Priyadarshan and Nivetha Pethuraj?

They both are very good performers.  It was exciting to work with them, coming to know their reactions to different scenes.  We competed with each other.

How was it working with Sunil?

It was always my wish to work with Sunil anna.  I love him in movies such as 'Nuvvu Nenu' and 'Nuvve Kavali'.  When I debuted in movies, he was a hero by then.  I finally got the chance to share the screen with him.  He treats me like a brother.  His comedy is amazing in the flick.

How was it working with Mythri Movie Makers?

They are passionate producers who believed in me.  We all know what their production values are like.  They are uncompromising and provide the director with everything that he wants.  They give total freedom to artists.  I feel very lucky to have got to work with them.  The industry needs such producers.

When are you going to do a multi-starrer like Ram Charan, NTR, Nani and others?

Whenever the right story comes my way.  I am open to doing multi-starrers.

What is your upcoming project?

I am busy with 'Chitralahari' for now.  Two-three concepts have been heard.  Nothing has been finalized as yet.
