Legendary former cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan today underwent an angioplasty at a Chennai hospital. His condition is now stable. The former Sri Lanka spinner is currently associated with the Indian Premier League (IPL) team Sunrisers.
Aged 49, he is coaching the team for the prestigious tournament. “Wishing Sri Lanka legend Muttiah Muralitharan, who was recently hospitalised for cardiac treatment, a speedy recovery,” ICC recently tweeted.
ESPNcricinfo reported that Muralitharan had a stent fitted to unblock an artery. He will resume his duties once he is discharged and is done with his quarantine.
IPL protocols, specified by concerned authorities, require that Muralitharan put himself in quarantine for some days after the surgery. He will be back in action only after the quarantine phase in view of the coronavirus.
