A few years ago a biopic on the legendary former Sri Lankan spin bowler Muttiah Muralitharan titled '800' was announced. Vijay Sethupathi was supposed to be playing the role of Muttiah Muralitharan and his body transformation for that stunned fans. Unfortunately the Makkal Selvan was forced to withdraw from the film after several prominent screen celebrities and political outfits demanded that he should not portray Murali who is percieved as anti Tamil.
Now a new motion poster of '800' has been released showing that Madhurr Mittal has replaced Vijay Sethupathi and he too has a close resemblance to the spin wizard. Madhur Mittal won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture for his role of Salim Malik in the Oscar Award winning 'Slumdog Millionaire' (2008) directed by Danny Boyle for which A.R. Rahman also won two Oscars. He is also playing a major role in the upcoming Hindi film 'Maidaan' starring Ajay Devgn and produced by Boney Kapoor.
M.S. Sripathi is directing '800' which has Ghibran composing the music, R.D. Rajasekhar handling the cinematography and Praveen KL the editing. The film's title denotes the number of test wickets that Muralitharan bagged which record may never be broken. The film is being made in three languages - Tamil, Telugu and Hindi and will release at the end of this year.
