Yuvan Shankar Raja seems to be growing from strength to strength. The man, who rendered many a hit songs in the recent past, has taken to a youthful album in `Muthirai'. It is peppy and groovy from the word go.
The movie directed by Sreenath stars Nithin Sathya, Manjari Phadnis (she has even sung a song in the album), Daniel Balaji and Lakshmi Rai in lead roles. The album has six numbers including a couple of remixes.
With like of Naresh Iyer, Krish, Benny and Rahul Nambiar singing, the songs have come really good sure to fascinate youngsters.
1. Om Shanthi Om
Singer: Neha Bhasin
A rocking Western number to begin with. Peppy beats and heavy instrumentation, the song is interesting from the first bit for Na Muthukumar's catchy lyrics. Neha has rendered it with gusto. It is peppy and sure to appease those who love groovy stuff. A typical Yuvan stuff this. There is a remix version of the song sung by Adhitya, which is on the noisy side.
2. Azhagaana Neeyum
Singer: Naresh Iyer, Manjari Phadnis
This song penned by Snehan, is a soft melody. It is based on Classical carnatic raaga. Soft on ears and sounds on lyrics, the song stands out for Manjari's good work and the elegance of Naresh Iyer's voice. The alaap in the interlude is catchy.
3. July Maadhathil
Singer: Mohd Aslam, Rahul Nambiar, Tanvi & Priya
A soul-stirring number in the album. Easily the best for it is smooth and flows soft and mild on the ears. It is indeed one of the rare songs by Yuvan Shankar Raja based on a Carnctic raaga. With catchy interludes, the song (penned by Na Muthukumar) is sure to top audio charts.
4. Uyire Uyire
Singer: Jaaved Ali, Madhumitha
A romantic duet with nice rhythms and slow but steady flow of music. Snehan's lyrics are romantic while Jaaved's voice fits the song like a T, while Madhumitha renders it in high octave.
5. The Night is Still Young
Singer: Krish, Benny, Preethi
It is Illayaraja meeting Rahman. Yuvan Shankar Raja has managed to render a song that reminds one of shades of Illayaraja and parts of Rahman. A melody with peppy rhythms and beautiful combination of string accompaniments is its highlight. The song is energetic and would be lapped by youth. Pa Vijay's youthful lyrics deserves mention. There is also a remix version of the song rendered by Adhitya which is more racy with guitars doing all the tricks.
6. Nenjukkulle
Singer: Shwetha
A pathos, rendered by Swetha, is about the travails of a women who fails in her romance. Snehan's lyrics suits the mood well.
All in all, it is an album by Yuvan Shankar Raja which is targeted at youth. He has achieved the purpose.
