Muslim clerics unhappy with UP govt's decision to use their loudspeakers

Recently, the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation said that it will use loudspeakers installed in mosques in the State to make announcements regarding a government scheme. The move has seemingly received the approval of the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government. As per the Corporation, it's good that the loudspeakers will be put to use to spread awareness.
The move, however, has not gone down well with Islamic clerics in the State. This opposition was expected.
As per an IANS report, the clerics are "up in arms against the use of loudspeakers in masjids for popularizing government schemes." A Shia cleric has been quoted as saying that a government's good work should not need loudspeakers.
It has to be seen whether the proposal can be implemented without controversies. Religious leaders will always have recourse to court in matters like this.
