As was reported yesterday, a Hindu shopkeeper named Kanhaiya Lal in Rajasthan's Udaipur was beheaded by two men belonging to a particular community. They released a video in which they claimed that they had killed the Hindu man for supporting BJP leader Nupur Sharma's recent comments allegedly insulting Prophet Muhammad.
The news is that the incident has drawn criticism from an Islamic body as well as Muslim politician Asaduddin Owaisi.
Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind said that the murder is against Islam and the law of the land. Maulana Halceemuddin Qasmi, the General Secretary of the top Muslim body, has condemned the incident by saying that the murder has been committed "apparently on the pretext of the insult to the Prophet (PBUH) and called it against the law of land and against the religion of Islam".
In his tweet, Owaisi stated, "There can be no justification for it. Our party’s consistent stand is to oppose such violence. No one can take the law into their own hands. We demand that the state government takes the strictest possible action. Rule of law must be upheld."
Meanwhile, the two murderers have been arrested by the Rajasthan police. The Centre has also sent an NIA team. A curfew has been imposed in Udaipur to avert communal incidents.
