In an interesting line in the movie , the protagonist Humayun lists a couple of charity institutions for which his lover Anupama needs to send the donations, even in his absence. And from the back seats we did hear some creative mind opining that ` if the producer had decided to donate all the money that went to make this film, it would have been a more worthy act than producing this movie'. Yes, this `Musafir' publicized more as one movie shot in Dubai, UK, Scotland and Thailand, just manages to become a tourism ad for these places than to tell any fine story lines. The movie has Mamtha Mohandas as Anupama, the only daughter of G K (Cochin Haneef) who is the backbone behind the multicrore Parvana group of establishments. Anupama is a singer, dancer and a business tycoon who loves to support inspiring talents. Humayun (Rahman), an amazingly gifted singer and musician who dreams of composing a symphony some day, comes to her door for financial help. Though she avoids him initially, she is astonished to see him perform in a dance programme. And soon they become close buddies, and Anupama falls for his list of abilities ranging from dancing to bike racing and car chasing . Anupama also convinces her father about her decision to marry Humayun and invites him to his life . But Humayun, to her shock, states that he needs to seek permission from his Guru , Musafir before giving the final nod for their marriage. And as we are perplexed with the whereabouts of Musafir, incomes plenty of twists in tale, that we are seldom interested at. Pramod and Pappan, continues with their poor performances in direction in 'Musafir'. Their conviction about `technology being the final say' in films than their emotional content backfires for the umpteenth time. This time the scripts by Babu Janardhanan with plenty of `been-there- seen- that aspects' is a big appointment with hardly any palpable content to propel the movie amidst its fine landscapes. The standard and customary drama doesn't pack a punch anywhere. And hence we see the hero roaming unwarrantably in Gulf and U K in all the travel forms ranging from cruise ships to every expensive cars and gliders. Even his trump card as a `man of charity' or his action and dance sequences fails to impress. But the actor in Rahman is the sole grace of this film who impress with his looks and styles but is handicapped by the poor dubbing. Mamtha is wasted in the role that is not worthy of her abilities. The actors like Cochin Haneefa reminds us of the years that this film has been in the making. Pramod Pappan but uses the best of the technological gadgets and travel to less travelled locales to can this uninspiring drama. We cannot fathom why the five minute fight scene in Bangkok and all that chases in deserts has been shot extravagantly, with not any importance in the narratives. Rather than ending up as a showpiece to be watched on TV sometime, the crores wasted many not prove to be of any use to the movie. A couple of songs by Ouseppachan are but good to hear. All in all, this Musafir, is a half-baked product that may find it difficult to travel for long in big screens Rating-4.5/10 |
