Police who have been investigating the death of 26-year-old IT executive, who was originally presumed to have killed her son and then committed suicide, concluded that Shivani and her son were actually murdered. Hemanth Kumar M, who works for an internet service provider in Yashwantpur allegedly strangled them in their house in Vijayapura. Hemanth was apparently in a relationship with Shivani and murdered her when she refused to leave her husband.

It was initially thought that Shivani had fed her son with poison and then consumed some herself since a bottle of poison was found beside her. But neither the police nor the parents and husband of Shivani suspected a suicide since they found strangulation marks on Shivani’s neck. They did not find a suicide note either. When the police probed Hemanth, who had been in constant touch with her, he confessed to the murder of the mother and the son.
