On a peaceful Sunday morning, when the residents of Marine Drive, stepped out for their early morning walk, they were in for a startling surprise. Their favourite local don, Munnabhai and his loyal side-kick Circuit, were cruising along the road in their old-fashioned scooter. Needless to add, they were breaking every red signal they encountered!

This was, of course, a shooting for the eagerly awaited sequel ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’. Within minutes of the shoot having started, news of “Munna on Marine Drive” spread like wild-fire. The calm empty Sunday Street was suddenly teeming with crazy fans and curious on-lookers. Everyone was hoping to catch a glimpse of Sunjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi in their most-loved roles.

Director Raju Hirani was taken aback by the overwhelming reaction “I have not see hysteria like this before. We almost had a riot on our hands. People were not screaming “Sunju, Sunju” as they would normally. But were yelling for “Munna and Circuit”

People waved from balconies of Marine Drive buildings, men clambered on top of bus stops, cars just stopped in the middle of road to look on. “The crowds kept increasing and it created traffic snarls of unbelievable proportions. Even the police had a difficult time,” says Raju Hirani.

Arshad Warsi (Circuit) perked up with his own unique theory for the hysteria “After all, if I were to see Batman and Robin on the streets, I would go crazy too!” In fact, two Japanese girls were screeching for Sanjay Dutt so loudly that Sanjay had to stop his shot mid-way to meet and calm down the palpitating girls. The girls had seen ‘Munnabhai MBBS’ in Japan.

So, the tale of Munnabhai lives on.
