A 51-year-old man has been arrested after he allegedly refused to take groceries from a Muslim delivery man in Mumbai's Mira road.
The incident happened on Tuesday when the 32-year-old delivery boy tried to deliver groceries that were ordered online by the customer. Her husband came outside along with her and asked the delivery boy's name. After learning that he was a Muslim, the man asked his wife to return the items and went on to make communal remarks against him. Distressed over the incident, the delivery boy decided to lodge a complaint with the police after discussing the issue with his family members. He reportedly mentioned, "It's very shocking and saddening that people are focusing on religion in such difficult times. I have been risking my life delivering food items to homes." The delivery boy, who was wearing gloves and mask while delivering the essential items, recorded the speech of the accused man and handed it over to the police who traced him.
The police have registered a case against the accused under Section 295 (a) deliberate and malicious acts to outrage religious feeling or insulting religious beliefs) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He was produced before the Thane sessions court and remanded in judicial custody.
This video is said to be from Maharashtra's Mira Road.
