Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh on Thursday said that a fake TRP racket has been busted in Maharashtra. The racket involves two Marathi channels and the English-language national TV channel Republic TV, he claimed.

So far, two of the channel owners have been arrested. "An investigation against one more channel is currently on," the Commissioner said.

The top cop claimed that somewhere between Rs 400-500 has been paid by the channels to each household, per month, with the aim of manipulating BARC data.

India Today, which has been at loggerheads with Republic TV, has reported that the Mumbai police will be questioning Arnab Goswami over the "suspicious TRP trends".

On his part, Arnab Goswami of Republic TV has said that he will be filing a criminal defamation case against the Mumbai Commissioner of Police. He claimed that the BARC report hasn't mentioned Republic TV in the first place. "Param Bir Singh's investigation in the Sushant Singh Rajput case is under a cloud and this is a desperate measure because of Republic TV's reportage on Palghar, the SSR case or any other case," Goswami, the top journalist in the country, said.
