WhatsApp, the instant messaging platform owned by Meta, is set to introduce a groundbreaking feature in its upcoming update, allowing channel owners to add new administrators to their channels. This feature, discovered in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.23.7 update, is poised to revolutionize channel management.
The innovation was uncovered by WABetaInfo, which reported a new option within the channel info screen that empowers channel owners to invite admins to the channel. Even though the feature is still in development, it is anticipated to be a powerful tool for channel management. This feature allows channel owners to select trusted individuals who can assist in managing and sharing content, providing enhanced control and management capabilities.
According to the report, the list of channel admins remains private, shielding it from the view of channel followers. This added layer of privacy is essential as it ensures sensitive information remains secure, especially as the channel expands in size or activity. The ability to add new admins becomes increasingly crucial in maintaining an active and efficient channel by ensuring regular content updates.
The advantages of this feature extend to the collaborative nature of WhatsApp channels. With multiple admins, channels can swiftly post breaking news stories, with reporters and editors contributing in real-time. The new admin feature is expected to be included in a future update of the app.
In a subsequent announcement, WhatsApp introduced the Multi-Admin feature, allowing channel owners to add up to 16 contacts as admins. This feature aims to streamline channel management, with channel followers unable to access admins' phone numbers, ensuring the security of sensitive information.
As a channel owner, you can invite up to 16 admins from your contacts or channel followers. Admins have the authority to manage channel information, create, edit, and delete updates. It's crucial for all admins to enable two-step verification to enhance the security of the channel.
Some key points to consider:
Invited admins can see the phone number of the channel owner.
Admins can make updates or manage channel info.
All admins should enable two-step verification for account security.
Channel admins (non-owners) cannot invite or dismiss additional admins.
Channel invitations expire after 7 days if not accepted, accepted by the invited admin, or if revoked by the channel owner.
To invite or dismiss admins, channel owners can access the channel info page from the Updates tab, tapping on the channel name. Invitations can be sent by tapping on followers or contacts and selecting "Invite as channel admin." Admins can be dismissed by selecting "Dismiss as admin" either as the channel owner or as an admin dismissing themselves.
It's important to note that the channel owner or admin receives notifications when someone is dismissed, and the dismissed admin remains a follower of the channel.
