Gangai Amaran, the younger brother of Ilaiyaraaja, who is celebrated as the king of Indian music, has made his mark in Tamil cinema as a music composer, lyricist, screenwriter, actor, and film director. He is a versatile talent who has made a name for himself without ever working as an assistant director.
He has directed numerous successful films such as Karagattakkaran, Enga Ooru Paattukaran, and Kovil Kaalai. He has also composed music for films like Vazhve Mayam, Chinna Thambi Periya Thambi, Jeeva, Suwarilla Chithirangal, and Neethipathi. Currently, he has penned a song for the upcoming film GOAT starring Vijay.
In an interview with Indiaglitz, he shared interesting insights about the controversies often stirred by Ilaiyaraaja's words and various other intriguing details.
Here's what he said:
"Getting the opportunity to be associated with the musical legend M.S.V. (M.S. Viswanathan) is nothing short of a blessing. In many instances, he would pretend as if he didn't know much about ragas, but in reality, there was nothing he didn't know.
As for me, I honestly don't know much about ragas. It's all just auditory knowledge.
It was director Panju Arunachalam who introduced both Ilaiyaraaja and me," he shared, along with many other details...
More information will be revealed in the next part of this interview...
