The demise of Jayaprakash Reddy has been correctly described as an irreparable loss. The fact that almost all the major stars of the Telugu film industry have been shocked by the veteran's demise says it all. He will be greatly missed.
What makes JP Reddy's death all the more miserable is that it has come in a decade which has seen the unfortunate passing away of a number of other talented comedy artists. The super-talented MS Narayana, the inimitable AVS, the adorable Venu Madhav and the unforgettable Dharmavarapu Subrahmanyam have orphaned the Telugu film industry. They were sought-after for comedy roles and with their death, whole comedy scenes and tropes have died. It's not a mere coincidence that we are seeing fewer and fewer comedies these days.
One can also add Ahuti Prasad and Srihari to the list. The character artists were known for some good comic timing.
Although JP Reddy's comic timing was not tapped into as much as the talent of the other aforementioned names, the actor was very much going great. In this year's Sankranthi release, Mahesh Babu's 'Sarileru Neekevvaru', he was in his elements. A number of comedy roles were waiting for him, perhaps. What a sad loss!
