Since India's heartbreaking semi-final exit from the 2019 World Cup, former skipper MS Dhoni has been on a hiatus and has not taken part in International cricket until now. He refrained from answering questions regarding his future in cricket as well.
While every Indian's hope was pinned on Dhoni during the encounter between India and New Zealand at the Old Trafford in Manchester, a brilliant direct hit in the 49th over by Martin Guptill left Dhoni falling short by inches of his ground, leading to his run-out when the team required 31 runs in the last two overs of the 240-run chase. Dhoni, in a recent interview with a news agency, revealed exactly what went through his mind following the dismissal.
"In my first game I was run-out and this game again I was run-out. I keep telling myself why didn’t I dive. Those two inches I still keep telling myself I should have dived," the wicket keeper-batsman reportedly stated.
After Dhoni's dismissal, the wickets of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Yuzvendra Chahal were lost quickly and India lost the match to New Zealand by 18 runs.
