Languishing in the cans for a long time `Theertha' is a terrific film for the contents, acting by lead actors especially - versatile Ananthnag and stylish Sudeep. There is a power and strong dose of sentiment that is also laced with a message on child-parent care. There are a few lilting tunes and cinematography is attractive what makes the film worth watching.
Sadhu Kokila on the muhurut day of this film said `Theertha' is a remake of Malayalam film `Spatikam' but now claims the credit for the story and screenplay. What does it mean? Yet the hard work put in gives a good pack of entertainment for Sudeep fans.
Son of a Mathematics teacher (Ananthnag) Theertha (Sudeep) is interested in something beyond studies. He knows how to prepare a radio and a school bell he prepares that is automatic is appreciated by one and all but not his father. Scoring 100 out of 100 in mathematic is what matters for his father. The average marks his son Theertha scores irritates his father to the core. Eventually the strong dislike between father and son leads to various complications. Theertha is sent to remand home for piercing his classmate by a compass who scored full marks in mathematics post him to grow in rugged nature.
Twenty five times Theertha goes to prison for beating the wrong doers in the society. Obviously he is not liked by his father. When the marriage of Theertha's sister breaks down, his father performs `Shraddha' (ceremony) for the living son irritates everyone in the family. The film takes on to a height from this situation. Theertha has to patch up the broken marriage and at the same he has to protest the affluent person son and get a pat for his invention of a motor vehicle are in the later reels.
In action and emotion Sudeep shows supremacy. His combination with Ananthnag the versatile actor is a treat to watch. Ananthnag as strict teacher has given a splendid performance. Veteran actress Geetha, Avinash, Rekha, Doddanna and Shobaraj have given admirable support in their roles.
Two songs in the film are peppy and well captured in the outdoor locations by the director. Gurukiran and Dasari Srinivasa Rao rendered good support.
This is worth watching by family.
