Prominent TRS leader and Nizamabad MP Kavitha Kalvakuntla has urged Google to introduce a Google Doodle celebrating the famous Bathukamma festival that is celebrated with great fervour across the state of Telangana.
"The matter is very close to the hearts of the people of Telangana. This is regarding the festival of Bathukamma, which is celebrated by more than 30 million people in Telangana and across the world," she starts writing in a letter addressed to the MD of Google India. "I wanted to request you to kindly feature Bathukamma as a Google Doodle this year as it's a festival of great cultural relevance," she adds.
She provides three grounds on which she is seeking the favour from Google:
First, it's a women-led festival that celebrates the spirit of the unity of women and their freedom and allows them to rejoice in public spaces freely.
Second, it's a festival of flowers and cherishes the ethos of environmental conservation and peace.
Third, it's a symbol of a cultural renaissance that was achieved through a peaceful movement, an awakening of people's pride in their indigenous traditions and culture, now celebrated across 15 countries.
"The festival takes place between the 9th and 17th of October and I would be most pleased and thankful if you could kindly give it expression through a google doodle feature," she signs off.
