In a shocking incident, Samajwadi Party MP Azam Khan has made sexist remarks in the Lok Sabha against the House's Deputy Speaker Rama Devi. He reportedly said, “Aap mujhe itni acchi lagti hain ki mera mann karta hai ki aap ki aankhon mein aankhein dale rahoon'”.

Following the comments, when Ministers such as Ravi Shankar Prasad protested, there was a lot of hue and cry in the House. Khan didn't apologize. After a while, he said that Rama Devi is like his sister.

Several political commentators and politicians have condemned Khan's remarks. "MP Azam Khan is a repeat offender and yet his party continues to back him to the hilt. Surprised to see Akhilesh Yadav ji come out in support of such misogynistic comments. Exposes the patriarchal and chauvinistic mindset of the leaders of the party," commented Priyanka Chaturvedi of the Shiv Sena.
