Bollywood films that became hit through word of mouth

The concept of preferring Bollywood stars over the content of the film has been there for a long time. Since the times are changing, content is getting equal importance in today's age. There are movies which have guaranteed box office collections but then there are movies that come and because of good reviews and content, the box office collection increases as the week passes. This certainly proves that Indian audience is giving a thumbs-up to good content and intelligent cinema. Some of our favourite movies which earned a lot from word of mouth are:

Kahaani: This is mystery thriller by Sujoy Ghosh, it revolves around a pregnant lady and her journey from London to Kolkata in search of her husband. Vidya Balan plays the lead role in the film and has given a fantastic performance.

The Lunch Box: An unlikely goof-up by a Tiffin carrier service results in an unusual friendship between two strangers. It has Irrfan Khan, Nimrat Kaur and Nawazuddin Siddique in lead roles. The film has been selected at various film festivals across the globe.

Gangs of Wasseypur: Three generations that fight with the coal-mining kingpin and the story is divided into two movies. Both the movies did very well at the box office and had great reviews.

Talvar: It is a fictional dramatization of true life events revolving around the murder of a teenage girl. An experienced investigator confronts several conflicting theories about the perpetrators of a violent double homicide.

Madaari: Just released 'Madaari', is a social-thriller film based on true events. It has been receiving all the good reviews and has been doing tremendously well at the box office. The film has Irrfan Khan who plays the lead has elevated the film with his performance.

Fukrey: The film is set in Delhi, where four "Fukrey" boys, come together to make easy money. A sequel to the film was announced which will release in 2017.

Dum Laga ke Haisha: This romantic comedy film is set in 1995 and the story revolves around a mismatched couple and the challenges they face. This movie won the national award in the best Hindi feature film category.

Nil Battey Sannata: This comic drama received overwhelming praises and it opened to critical acclaim. The realistic approach towards the portrayal of the mother-daughter relationship was widely lauded by critics.
