Twitter India has released its annual list of the most popular tweets in the country in 2021. While Australian cricketer Pat Cummins' post about his donation to Covid-19 relief in India was revealed to be the most retweeted tweet of the country, Virat Kohli’s announcement of the birth of his daughter became the most liked tweet of the year.
While numerous Indians were desperately in need of help during the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, several celebrities came forward to extend their support to the individuals through various means. Australian cricketer Pat Cummins was one of them, as the all-rounder announced that he had made a donation in April towards the Covid-19 relief fund. The tweet has garnered over 114,000 retweets so far, and with 21,900 quote tweets, it is also the most quoted tweet of the year.
Meanwhile, Indian cricketer Virat Kohli announcing the birth of his baby daughter became the most liked tweet of the year. “We are thrilled to share with you that we have been blessed with a baby girl this afternoon. We thank you all for your love, prayers and good wishes. Anushka and the baby are both healthy and we are feeling beyond blessed to start this new chapter of our lives. We hope that you can respect our privacy at this time. Love, Virat,” the tweet read. The post has received as many as 538,200 likes so far.
