Mondodu
Not many journalists have turned filmmakers, not definitely of much significance in the mainstream cinema. What makes a journo's profession a logical prelude to being director is a, the ability to view it as an outsider and b, write a story. However, in practice it was not so and barring documentaries, journalists haven't made a great mark as filmmakers in the feature arena.
Prabhu, senior scribe and film critic in TFI is making a n attempt to change the course. What aids him in the job is his years of experience as a close watch on the films and the way they are made, is the fact that he worked as an assistant director with Dasari Narayana Rao early in his career. Prabhu is making his debut with Srikanth starrer 'Mondodu' which has finished production and post production, released the audio and is preparing for the big day, the release.
In his own words, 'Mondodu is a character that I fell in love with and as it unfolds on the screen, everyone will love him too. He is a petty thug, does small time thievery but is so good at heart, he doesn't think a second or blink an eye to put his own life at stake to save a kid's life...' The character certainly creates a poignant corner in our minds. But the question is, does it attract you to the theaters... Does it entertain you enough to come back and fall in love again. 'Yes, it's quite entertaining at the same time engaging' says Prabhu. With support cast in Posani, Raghu Karumanchi, Chitram Srinu we have some scintillating comedy and sound tracks by Sai Karthik are soothing.
As the practice goes, the censor members praised the movie and hailed the movie as a game changer. However, looking at the movie prospects at the Box office, one has to admit that they are not very bright to open with. Srikanth's run hasn't been encouraging and he has slipped quietly into a second rung league heroes and not much excitement for his films among the audience. However, perform the promise, this might be a surprise success at the Box Office, winning back the actor his lost charm and loyalty.
