Record-breaking women Tennis player Serena Williams, the youngest of the famed ‘Williams Sisters’, is to make a return to competitive tennis by playing in the Australian Open, the first of the four Grand Slam Tournaments of 2018.
The 36-year old tennis ace, who had held the ‘No.1’ ranking on 8 different occasions from 2002 to 2017, holds the world record for holding most number of Grand Slam titles (39) taken together in singles, doubles and mixed-doubles including 23 singles title and 14 doubles titles. The Michigan-born American tennis player, who turned 36 three months back, gave birth to a baby girl Olympia Ohanian on 01st September.
Considered as the ‘queen’ of women’s tennis who has a strong game and an array of ground-strokes suited to both the grass and clay courts, Serena married Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian in November when her baby girl was 2-months old. Serena has now announced that she would be taking part in next January’s Australian Open to defend her title which she won in January this year by defeating her elder sister Venus Williams.
Now that her baby is more than 3 months old, Serena is said to be indulging in work-outs and regular physical exercises to get back in shape to be back in competitive tennis as soon as possible. Serena taking the tennis field after becoming a mother has sent excitement across the globe in general and in particular among her millions of fans the world over!
