Her choice of films have changed and instead of doing masala entertainers, she has decided to do meaningful films like 'English Vinglish'. Audience loved her performance and thus there is good amount of expectations related to her latest film 'Mom'.
Story
'Mom' is a story a teacher Devki Sabarwal (Sridevi), leading a happy life with her family. Her life takes a drastic change when her husband Anand (Adnan Siddiqui) goes out of the country and at that same time her step daughter Arya (Sajal Ali) is gang raped by her classmate Mohit and his associates. Devki and Anand along with inspector Mathew Francis (Akshay Khanna) seek legal help but fails miserably. At that time Devki sought help of a private detective Daya Shankar Kapoor (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), which leads a series of unfortunate events.
The 'Glitz' Factor
The first half is full of wonderful scenes featuring Nawazuddin, Sridevi, Sajal and Adnan. The second half is a tight vengeance based thriller with loads of twist and turns. The Pitobash and Vikas Verma tracks are presented in totally entertaining, engaging and thrilling manner.
Every conversational scene between Nawazuddin and Sridevi are fantastic. The planning and plotting tracks are highly interesting leading to the power packed finale. The emotional quotient in climax part is impactful. The scenes are beautifully presented and works as an additional screenplay in the film. The background music by A R Rahman is marvelous.
Debutant director Ravi Udyawardisplays his fine skill of a filmmaker. He presents the movie with the right blend of realistic as well as entertaining cinema. The movie has some cinematic liberties, but thanks to Ravi, it's been presented in perfect manner.
Sridevi is amazingly outstanding in her performance. Nawazuddin Siddiqui displays yet another good performance. Sajal Ali is superb in some of the key scenes of the film. Adnan Siddiqui lends good support.Abhimanyu Singh, Vikas Verma, Pitobash and others are perfect as per their tracks.
The 'Non-Glitz' Factor
There are many scenes which are similar to Raveena Tandon starrer film 'Maatr'. The movie takes its own sweet time to come on the right track. The length in the middle portion could have been drastically trimmed down.
Akshay's character is bit inconsistent. The music by A R Rahman is not that great.
It's just that maybe some amount of minute trimming would have worked in the favour of the film. Akshay Khanna lends decent support, but was bit stylish for his character.
Final 'Glitz'
'Mom' is like a tale of fiery tigress, who can do anything in order to protect her cub. It's a taut thriller which deserved to be seen.
