On Thursday, Prakash Javadekar, the minister of Information and Broadcasting announced that Superstar Rajinikanth has been conferred with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke award, India's highest honour in cinema. The award will be presented to Rajinikanth on May 3.

Prakash announced the big news through his social media handle. “Happy to announce #Dadasaheb Phalke award for 2019 to one of the greatest actors in history of Indian cinema Rajnikant ji His contribution as actor, producer and screenwriter has been iconic I thank Jury@ashabhosle @SubhashGhai1 @Mohanlal @Shankar_Live #BiswajeetChatterjee (sic)” he tweeted.

As the whole country is celebrating the achievement of Rajinikanth who is popularly known as ‘Thalaivar’, our Mollywood celebs too took to their social media handle to congratulate the Kollywood Superstar. Actor Mohanlal who was also a member of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award jury took to his social media pages and congratulated Rajinikanth. “Well deserved recognition, Congratulations Dear @rajinikanth sir on The Dadasaheb Phalke Award,” wrote Mohanlal.

Meanwhile, Megastar Mammootty who shared screen space with Rajini in the super hit movie ‘Thalapathi’ wrote, “Congratulations Surya for the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. With love Deva."
