The National Awards has been announced. Mollywood has bagged nine awards. 'Pathemari' starring Mammootty in the lead was chosen as the Best Feature Film (Malayalam). V K Prakash's 'Nirnayakam' was adjudged the Best Social Movie. Another Malayalam movie, Dr. Biju's 'Valliya Chirakulla Pakshikal' clinched the Best Environmental Movie title.

Malayalam cinema has always been known for its artistic excellence. The jury made special mention about the movies churned out from the state saying that Kerala is the most film friendly state. Jayasurya was given a special mention for his performances in 'Lukka Chuppi' and 'Su Su Sudhi Vathmeekam'.
