Mohanlal’s most anticipated National-award-winning movie ‘Marakkar-Arabikadalinte Simham’ directed by Priyadarshan is gearing up for a grand theatrical release on December 2. Ahead of its release, the Superstar himself has confirmed that the magnum opus will be streamed on OTT platforms as well after the theatrical release. In an interview with a popular TV channel, Mohanlal clarified the same. “There were reports claiming that the movie will have a direct OTT release when we didn’t plan about the release. As such news was false, we opted to keep mum. ‘Marakkar’ makers have signed a contract with OTT platforms after confirming the theatrical release. So, ‘Marakkar’ will definitely have OTT release too,” said Mohanlal.
It may be remembered that the film's release was the hot topic of discussion on social media after the discussions between the theatre owners, distributors, and the movie producer Antony Perumbavoor failed multiple times. After a fallout with theatre owners, Antony Perumbavoor had even resigned from FEUOK (Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala).
The big-budget movie revolves around the life and times of Kunhali Marakkar, the famous naval chieftain of the Zamorin of Calicut, who had defended against the Portuguese invasion in the 16th century. Written and directed by Priyadarshan and Produced by Antony Perumbavoor Under the Banner of Aashirvad Cinemas, the upcoming Pan India project also stars Pranav Mohanlal, Arjun, Suniel Shetty, Prabhu, Manju Warrier, Suhasini, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Fazil, Siddique, Nedumudi Venu, Innocent, Ashok Selvan, and others. Music is by Ronnie Raphael while Thiru is the cinematographer and Aiyappan Nair M.S is the editor.
Even before the grand release in India, at the 67th National Film Awards, the film won three awards- Best Feature Film, Best Special Effects, and Best Costume Design.
