Mohanlal’s highly anticipated film, “Empuraan” (also known as L2: Empuraan), is making waves even before its release. The overseas advance bookings for this political action drama have shattered previous Malayalam cinema records. Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, the film’s advance booking in India also began today.
While expectations were high, “Empuraan” exceeded them dramatically. It now holds the record for the highest hourly pre-sales on Book My Show in Indian cinema, with 96.14K tickets sold, surpassing the previous record held by “Leo” (82K tickets per hour). This was achieved as multiple theatres opened bookings simultaneously.
Trade reports indicate that “Empuraan” amassed over Rs. 5 crores from the Kerala box office in just four hours. At this rate, the film is well on track to surpass “Leo’s” opening-day record of Rs. 12 crores in Kerala. Given the overwhelming response, “Empuraan” is expected to set multiple records in Malayalam cinema.
