Actor Mohanlal has joined the list of celebrities raising concern over the toxic haze from the Brahmapuram waste plant fire in Kochi. The fumes have made life unbearable for residents, causing respiratory illnesses and reflecting unhealthy levels of air quality index and pollution. In a recent interaction with the media, Mohanlal criticized the government for not finding a permanent solution and emphasized the severity of the issue, stating that the fumes could reach all over the world. He also shared that he had written a letter to the Chief Minister five years ago warning of the uncontrollable waste levels in Kochi. The actor expressed his pain for the mothers and families affected by the situation and highlighted the danger for newborn infants, children and elders. Other actors, including Prithviraj Sukumaran, Unni Mukundan, and Tovino Thomas, have also taken to social media to provide instructions for Kochi residents regarding the deteriorating air quality.
Meanwhile, on the other side, after returning to Kochi from shooting Kannur Squad in Mumbai and Pune, Mammootty reported experiencing breathing difficulties, starting with a cough and progressing to wheezing. The actor, who is currently in Wayanad, emphasized that the issue extends beyond Kochi, with the fumes spreading to other districts as well. Many advised him to leave the city, and he called for both authorities and citizens to take action towards proper waste management. Mammootty stressed that waste management is a fundamental requirement, akin to roads and water, and urged against turning Kochi into a gas chamber.
