It was speculated that the teaser of Mohanlal-Jeethu Joseph's much-awaited movie will release on December 25 as a Christmas special. Now, the lead actor himself has officially revealed the release date of the teaser. Taking to his social media handle, Mohanlal revealed that the teaser of Drishyam 2 will be unveiled on New Year's day of 2021.

'The teaser of #Drishyam2 will be releasing on Jan 1st, 2021, 00:00 am IST. Wait for the surprise George kutty and family is going to bring, this New Year. Stay Tuned #Drishyam', wrote Mohanlal. The complete actor made the big announcement on the 7th anniversary of Drishyam, the first installment.

‘Drishyam 2’ is a sequel to the 2013 superhit Drishyam directed by Jeethu Joseph. The sequel will also feature Mohanlal and Meena playing the couple Georgekutty and Rani George. The movie's story is set seven years after the original film story ends and also has Ansiba Hasan and Esther Anil returning.

The sequel is said to have no crime elements and will focus only on family-drama. In an interview, Jeethu Joseph revealed 'The police hadn’t closed the murder investigation. So the film will examine how the family deals with their own personal trauma and reactions from the society'.

Produced by Antony Perumbavoor under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas, the movie also has a few new additions to the cast such as Murali Gopy, Ganesh Kumar, Anjali Nair and Sai Kumar. The movie's post-production works are currently progressing in full swing and has been planned as Mohanlal’s first release once theatres resume functioning.
