The 64th National Film Awards were announced last day and Mohanlal won the Special Jury award for his performance in Janatha Garage, Pulimurugan and Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol. Mohanlal was busy shooting for his upcoming movie Villain with director B Unnikrishnan when the awards were announced.The actor who was surprised with the award expressed his happiness to the fans through his official Facebook page.

"Hearty congratulations and sincere appreciation to all the National Award winners. I would also like to express my gratitude to Jury for having given me this special recognition. I am truly humbled and honored. Every film becomes a success only because of the team effort. I am taking this opportunity to thank and share this award with all my team members from the film fraternity, my family and friends for their love and support," wrote Mohanlal. This is the second time Mohanlal is winning the special jury award after Kireedam (1989).

Mohanlal was among the last three names for the best actor award for his performance in Pulimurugan, Janatha Garage and Munthirivallikal Thalirkumbol. Mohanlal had won National award for best actor twice - in 1991 for Bharatham and in 1999 for Vanaprastham.
