Addressing the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, Narendra Modi took on the Opposition for suggesting that EVMs have helped the BJP win the elections.
"Some people have kept raising the EVM issue in this House. I want to tell them there was a time when we (BJP) had just 2 MPs in the Parliament. People made fun of us. But, we worked harder and won the trust of people. We did not make excuses and blame polling booth," he said.
The Prime Minister defended his government's PM-KISAN scheme. "Saying farmers sold themselves just because of the Rs 2,000 scheme is an insult to them. I am shocked that even the media has been abused. It was said that elections were won because of the media. What do such people mean? That the media is on sale? Does the same logic apply to Tamil Nadu and Kerala?" the BJP supremo asked.
He then went on to target the Congress party. "Did India lose in Wayanad (Rahul Gandhi's constituency in Kerala)? Did India lose in Rae Bareli? Did India lose in Trivandrum, and what about Amethi? What kind of argument is this? If Congress loses then does that mean India lost? There is a limit to arrogance. Congress could not win a single seat in 17 states," he said.
"I was saddened when some leaders said that the BJP and its allies won the elections but the country lost and democracy lost. These statements are really unfortunate," Modi added.
