Fear not. There is no Demonetization on the cards. Narendra Modi has said that, this Sunday, he is thinking of giving up his social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. Soon after the Prime Minister's tweet, there began a barrage of speculations as to what his intentions are.
People are seeing a few possibilities:
One: Modi is trying to raise awareness about digital detox, especially for the greater good of children during the exam season.
Two: Sunday is Women's Day. The PM wants to do something pro-women on that day and that's why he has made the curious tweet to grab attention to the cause well in advance.
Three: Modi wants to target Twitter and other platforms for "shadow banning", bias, muzzling freedom of expression, etc. His aim is to develop a swadeshi social media app.
Of these, the first two look plausible, while the last one looks totally far-fetched. Modi, it seems, has no intention to permanently give up social media.
The buzz is that Modi himself will talk about the purpose of his tweet very soon.
