On Thursday, Twitter confirmed that the Twitter account of Narendra Modi's personal website has been hacked. The Twitter account of the Prime Minister's mobile app, too, stands hacked.
"We are taking steps to secure the compromised account," Twitter said, adding that the investigation is actively on.
When did the hacking become public? In the early hours of the day, a tweet that requested people to contribute to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund through cryptocurrency was seen. This is when the authorities alerted Twitter about the compromised status of Modi's account. The handle has got 2.5 million followers.
A Twitter spokesperson informed that only the aforementioned two accounts are believed to have been compromised. Further investigation will reveal the final picture.
Usually, a foreign hand is involved in such high-profile hacking incidents.
