Narendra Modi has appealed to prominent film stars, sportspersons, cricketers, spiritual organizations and others to build an awareness campaign regarding the need to use the right to vote. The Lok Sabha elections will be held in several phases through April and May.
"You are always setting outstanding records on the cricketing field but this time, do inspire the 130 crore people of India to set a new record of high voter turnout in the upcoming elections. When this happens, democracy will be the winner!" the Prime Minister told Virat Kohli and others.
Modi also appealed to the RSS, NCC, NSS, Nehru Yuva Kendra and Brahma Kumaris "to help increase voter awareness and tap the power of society for democracy."
Top Bollywood names such as Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone and others were also urged. "As renowned film personalities whose work is admired by many, I am sure their message will have a positive impact on our citizens," Modi said.
