Two surveys recently found out that the approval ratings enjoyed by Narendra Modi are at a historic high. The Prime Minister's popularity has reportedly gone up in the wake of Covid-19.
Ground reports, says VDP Associates (a polling agency), suggest that not just of the PM but even of several Chief Ministers, the popularity is at an all-time high. "The feedback we are getting from the ground is that the popularity of Chief Ministers such as Arvind Kejriwal, KCR, Naveen Patnaik, and Yogi Aditaynath has also surged dramatically," VDP says.
What might be the reason behind this? "Basically, it is the fear psychology of people in uncertain crisis times that's working," VDP elaborates.
This is conventional. In times of war, for example, the popularity of Indira Gandhi and AB Vajpayee rose like never before. People tend to trust the democratically-elected government in times of calamities, wars, and pandemics.
