The Telangana Rythu Bandhu scheme is back in the news. After helping the farmers in the State, thanks to K Chandrasekhar Rao's policy, a similar scheme has been adopted by the Centre.
Named Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samaan Nidhi scheme (a direct cash transfer scheme), its target sections are small and marginal farmers. The Centre will give away Rs 6,000 per annum for all farmers having less than 2 hectares. The estimated cost is Rs 75,000 Cr. It will reach 12 crore farmers across the country.
This is less than Telangana's Rs 8,000 per annum and Odisha's Rs 10,000 per annum. Nevertheless, the Centre's announcement is most welcome.
Presenting the budget, interim Finance Minister Piyush Goyal also announced that about Rs 60,000 Cr will be allocated for the MNREGS this year. This will help the rural poor.
A new scheme named Rashtriya Kamdhenu Yojana scheme has been announced to boost the cow economy.
